Lasting Longer

How to last longer in bed.

A simple home practice plan, based on methods that have been around since the 1950s. Most men who stick with it for 8 to 12 weeks see real change.

Most guys want to last longer in bed. The good news is that lasting longer is mostly a skill, not a fixed setting. With practice, most men can add a few minutes within a few months.

Here is the plan, in plain order. The detail on each method lives on its own page.

What works, in plain terms

Two things drive lasting longer. First, learning to notice when you are close to finishing, before you actually do. Second, training the small group of muscles in your pelvic floor.

That is most of it. The stop-start method covers the first. The pelvic floor page covers the second.

The 12-week plan

Build skill in this order. Each step is short.

01

Weeks 1 and 2: solo stop-start

By yourself, bring yourself close, then stop. Wait until your arousal drops. Then restart. Three rounds, then finish. Daily or every other day. Full method on the start-stop page.

02

Weeks 3 and 4: add kegels

Three sessions a week. Build to 5-second holds. Full protocol on the pelvic floor page.

03

Weeks 5 and 6: try with a partner

Same stop-start idea, with your partner. Slow down or pause when you feel close.

04

Weeks 7 to 12: keep going

Most men see the biggest gains between week 6 and week 10. If nothing has changed by week 12, talk to a doctor.

What the research describes

What we know from research

Waldinger 2005 measured the actual median time from start of sex to finishing across countries: about 5.4 minutes. The cultural picture is much higher than the real number. Knowing the real range is the first step.

If practice is not working

These are signs to talk to a doctor instead of pushing harder on home practice.

01

It started suddenly

Sudden onset usually has a clear cause a doctor can identify.

02

Under one minute, every time

The strict clinical zone. See a urologist.

03

It is wrecking your relationship

Do not wait 12 weeks. See a doctor sooner.

04

You also have erection trouble

Common questions

Will this work for me?
It works for most men who stick with it. Give it 12 weeks.
Can I just take a pill?
Several prescription options exist for premature ejaculation. Whether any is right for you is a doctor’s call.
Do numbing creams work?
They reduce sensation and can help short-term, but they reduce sensation for your partner too. Use them as a temporary tool, not the answer.
Should I tell my partner I’m training?
You do not have to. Most early training is solo.
